KAETE STEINLECHNER (1926- )
Käte [or Kaete],
daughter of Otto Walter Mittelstedt,
married Hans Steinlechner, an Austrian of
Wattenberg (a mountain
next to the
town of Wattens
near Innsbruck).
They had three
children, Thomas, Claudia and Norbert, and lived on Wattenberg.
In
a telephone discussion Käte mentioned her
"Arbeitsdienst" (a compulsory year of work after her schooling
finished), which she did on a farm. She said, "I still know how
to milk cows." She also mentioned the bombing of Hamburg in July 1943
which she survived with her father and mother in the shelters beneath
the Michaelis Church.
In the 1950s, like her father in the 1920s, she took motorbike trips:

This is how I travelled from Hamburg to Innsbruck (Austria)
and from there safely to Belgium.
