The following chart of Texas Mittelstedts descended from Carl Theodore Mittelstedt (1818-1893) omits most of the females. 

So far we have no connection with the Mittelstedts of Angern (Germany).

We see in the chart how suddenly the spelling of a surname could change in previous centuries.
